Fundraising at Tesco

Each week, a group of children from Kingsbury work at our local Tesco store.
Community Fundraising Partnership with Tesco
As part of our commitment to developing responsible citizens and strengthening links with the local community, pupils participated in a fundraising initiative in partnership with Tesco to support Cancer Research UK. The project provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils to contribute to a national charity campaign whilst developing important personal and social skills.
Pupils supported the fundraising effort by helping with collection buckets in the store and later counting the donations raised. Through this experience, they developed an understanding of helping others, community responsibility and the positive impact that collective action can have on supporting important causes. Pupils demonstrated enthusiasm, pride and a strong sense of achievement when they discovered they had helped raise £57.32 for charity.
The activity provided valuable opportunities to apply mathematical skills in a real-life context, whilst also developing communication, confidence and social interaction within a community setting. Engaging with members of the public helped pupils build confidence beyond the school environment and develop their understanding of their role within the wider community.
This experience made a significant contribution to pupils’ personal development by promoting empathy, kindness and active citizenship. It also enhanced pupils’ cultural capital by providing first-hand experiences of charitable work and community engagement, helping them to understand how they can make a positive contribution to society.
The project promoted children's rights through encouraging participation in community life and the development of their talents and abilities (Article 29), supporting their right to express their views and contribute to society (Article 12), and enabling them to participate fully in their community (Article 23)
