Forest School: Rosenshine Principles in Action

Kingsbury Academy was delighted to welcome Corley Academy pupils for our final Forest School session of the year, building further on our shared work around Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and evidence-informed practice.

The session provided an opportunity to demonstrate how inclusive and meaningful pedagogy can support all pupils to succeed. Staff supported pupils to understand the task through the use of visual prompts and clear, step-by-step instructions, making expectations accessible for all. Pupils worked collaboratively in teams to put up a tent, developing key skills in teamwork, problem-solving and communication. By the end of the session, pupils were confidently applying their learning through collaborative shelter building.

Alongside this structured learning, there was also space for creativity and exploration, allowing pupils the freedom to follow their curiosity within the Forest School environment. The session ended on a high note, with pupils enjoying a well-deserved ice lolly together, celebrating their hard work and success.

This session also reflected our ongoing commitment as a Rights Respecting School, promoting children’s rights, such as working together, being listened to and developing confidence. Article 12, 15 and 31.
