Parkride

Kingsbury Academy was delighted to welcome Parkride, an inclusive and accessible cycling service, into school.

Parkride provides fun and flexible cycling opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, and their visit gave our pupils a fantastic chance to take part in something new and engaging.

They brought a wide range of adapted and mainstream bikes, allowing each pupil to find a cycle that suited their individual needs. Their friendly and experienced team worked closely with pupils, supporting them to feel safe, comfortable and confident throughout the sessions. The children  showed high levels of concentration.

Our pupils had the opportunity to:

Try different types of bikes

Build confidence and coordination

Develop independence and physical skills

Enjoy a new and exciting experience

This activity supports a number of Rights Respecting Articles, Article 31 (the right to play and enjoy leisure activities) through fun and engaging experiences, and Article 24 (health) by promoting physical activity and wellbeing. It also reflects Article 2 (non-discrimination), as all pupils are included regardless of ability, and Article 29 (goals of education) by developing confidence, independence, and life skills.

The first session also acted as a taster, helping to identify the level of support each pupil may need and matching them to the most suitable equipment.

We are pleased that Parkride will be returning to Kingsbury Academy over the next three weeks, giving our pupils the opportunity to build on their skills, confidence and enjoyment of cycling.

It was wonderful to see so many pupils engaged, smiling and achieving success. We look forward to continuing our work with Parkride in the coming weeks.
