Every Child Has Rights Day

On Friday 8th May, we held Every Child Has Rights Day as part of our ongoing journey towards Gold as a Silver Rights Respecting School.
Throughout the day, children explored a range of key rights, including:
The right to feel safe
The right to play
The right to learn
The right to express themselves
The right to be healthy

Children were given the opportunity to make choices about the activities they wanted to take part in, helping them to explore their right to play. A wide range of activities were available, including creating sensory bottles to help children feel calm and safe, and developing calm zones within learning spaces. To support an understanding of the right to be healthy, some children also took part in making pizza and tasting a variety of fruits and talking about making healthy choices.
Parents shared photographs from home to support discussions and celebrate children’s rights, helping pupils to recognise how their rights are protected both in school and beyond.
It was a positive and engaging day that helped children deepen their understanding of their rights in a meaningful and practical way. For further information go to The Rights Respecting Schools Award | UNICEF UK
Every Child Has Rights Day supports children’s right to be safe, learn, play, be healthy and have their voices heard, in line with Articles 12, 19, 24, 28 and 31.
