Parental engagement
Pastoral Lead
Here at Kingsbury Academy, we have the welfare and wellbeing of our families at the heart of everything we do. If our families are experiencing difficulties, we know this can impact upon our pupils’ ability to be relaxed and ready to learn and engage at school. By working together we hope to make everyone’s life that little bit easier.
Our Pastoral Lead is responsible for several areas that can support our families, such as:
-
Family Support
-
Early Help Coordination
-
Parental Engagement
-
Safeguarding Support
-
Safe and well checks
-
Workshop co-ordinator
-
Attendance support
-
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
The Pastoral Lead’s role is to support families in a variety of ways to ensure our pupils get the very best from school. They can help by offering support with behaviour, communication, embedding routines at school and home and attendance support.
The Pastoral Lead can also offer guidance with housing, respite applications, benefit concerns and accessing services such as respite. They work alongside many other professionals from social and healthcare, so have a wide breadth of knowledge to benefit our families.
The Pastoral Lead welcomes all queries and will endeavour to support, so please do not hesitate to contact school for a chat, or to discuss any issues that you may be experiencing. If you want to talk to someone, please ring school on 02476594952 and your call will be passed on to appropriately. Alternatively, you can email the Pastoral Lead at familysupport@kingsbury.thrive.ac
Workshops
Our Pastoral Lead is responsible for providing family support and coordinating regular workshops to offer advice and guidance to support our families with our children’s academic and wellbeing needs at home and support parents own personal development and wellbeing, if wanted.
Here are some examples of the workshops provided:
Communication support workshops |
These are delivered by our own in-house speech and language therapist, Stephanie Ropic, who delivers a range of workshops based on varying levels of communication to meet our learners needs. For example, supporting our parents use communication books, Aided Language Displays (ALDs), and how to enhance children’s vocabulary. These workshops help develop our parents’ confidence in supporting their child’s communication at home, ensuring that consistent communication strategies are used both at home and in school. Our Pastoral Lead can offer symbols, communication books and visual timetables to support parents with embedding structure and routine at home. Our Pastoral Lead can complete home visits to model communication strategies, if required.
